Twenty-one hours north by train towards Arkhangelsk, near the Arctic Circle, and winter weather resumes. I find myself enjoying the warmth of the long underwear I had packed away in my wardrobe. The Russian guys and I begin with a White Sea picnic, which includes jumping into the frigid waters. In the evening, we attend a foam party in one of Arkhangelsk’s many night clubs, which seem to be much more common here than restaurants. Overcoming his original disapproval of the foam club idea, Stas is now the single engine driving us on in a night-long vodka fueled bash. We emerge into a freezing summer morning soaking wet but content. Visiting a foam club in Russia’s North is an unforgettable experience.
