The UK Leica team is getting ready for Birdfair 2012 that will take place in Rutland Water from 17 to 19 August and is looking forward to welcoming you to the Leica stand! Leica will be located at the end of the Optics Marquee overlooking the lake at Stand 8 showcasing its entire range of sport optics equipment, including binoculars, spotting scopes, digiscoping equipment, monoculars and the V-Lux 40 and V-Lux 3 cameras. All of the equipment will be available for hands-on testing. From the UK Leica team, Jenny Hodge gives us some insight on what to expect from Leica at this year’s Birdfair.

Q: What’s your role with Leica Camera and specifically with Leica Birding?

A: I’m Leica’s Marketing Manager for UK/Ireland, and I look after marketing activities across Leica’s full range of products including optics and cameras.

Q: Who all will be at the Leica booth this year?

A: Many of my colleagues will be attending Birdfair this year, including our Client Care team who will be on hand to answer any technical product questions. World record holder and birding expert, Alan Davies, will be available at our stand every day to answer questions and give advice on birding and optics equipment.

Q: For those who can’t be there in person, can they follow along anywhere online?

A: There is plenty of information on the Birdfair website including details on how to register and how to get there, as well as what’s on during the event. Many workshops, activities and talks take place and a full programme of events can be found on their website. Alan Davies will also be tweeting live from our booth from the @LeicaBirding Twitter account.

Q: What are you looking forward to most at Birdfair this year?

A: We’re looking forward to meeting our customers and also to seeing what’s on offer from the many interesting stands at the show, as usual!

Q: You’re a big nature enthusiast yourself – why is it important to you?

A: I am a huge nature and wildlife fan, and I am always looking to improve my knowledge and learn about new species. The Birdfair is a great way to find out what’s going on with wildlife around the world, thanks to the diverse range of exhibitors attending.

Q: As a veteran of Birdfair, do you have any advice to new visitors?

A: Bring wellies, an umbrella and be prepared for the mud! More seriously, allow plenty of time to get round the show as there are a huge number of stands.  If looking for new optics equipment, take time to visit each stand and research what’s available. Pick up a show guide on the way in!

Thank you for your time, Jenny!
