On my way home to New York from India, I made an unplanned stop in Nepal. While known for its incredible mountains, Nepal also has tropical lowlands — it is a fascinating place with great biodiversity and contrasts. On my first day, I was able to arrange for a driver to take me to a few towns within a six- hour radius of Kathmandu. While sweating in tropical heat and then hiking in the foothills of the Himalayas, it was obvious that there was so much more left to discover and explore.
