Meet Annika Lu Hermann, a 22-year-old fashion design student born, raised and living in Hamburg, Germany. This video featuring Annika and her V-Lux 3 is the third in our “Leica. My Life.“ series. Having received her first camera from her father at age 10 and making the decision to study fashion design at age 14, both forms of expression play an important role in her life.
“Photography is a very versatile medium. I can photograph textures and colours to set my inspiration on fire. It’s amazing just how different some things appear when you see them in a photo. Another great thing about photography is how you can use it to capture special moods or intense emotions. How and what I shoot depends a great deal on the situation and whether I’m thinking and working experimentally or documenting something I’m doing. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of how the mood strikes me.”
As Annika proclaims, she has always known what she wants and doesn’t want – in her course of study, in her designs and in her camera – which is why the V-Lux 3 is her camera of choice. When asked what she looks for in a camera, she said “intuitive handling and absolute reliability”. She goes on to explain, “On the other hand, it’s also important that it lets me change settings, such as exposure parameters the way I want them to be. My camera has to make it possible for me to capture what I see exactly the way I see it. And my camera does exactly that. Fortunately, I can’t think of any situation where it could let me down. Quite the opposite, in fact: it lets me express myself. Just the way I like it.”
